'Obsession' breaks trend with solid second week performance

The low budget horror film. Obsession is becoming a surprise box office hit, doing solid numbers even in its second weekend.

The film grossed around $22 million in more than 2,600 theaters in North America during its second weekend.

During the Memorial Day holiday period, it is expected to reach around $28.2 million.

What makes this even more unusual is that the film did better than its opening weekend. It was up about 30 percent, which almost never happens with wide-release horror movies, as they typically go down after the first weekend.

Until now, Obsession It has earned around $58.5 million in North America and around $74 million worldwide.

All of this success came from a very small production budget, less than a million dollars. However, the film is directed by YouTube creator Curry Barker and produced by Blumhouse Atomic Monster directed by Jason Blum.

Experts say this kind of second-weekend jump is very rare, as they believe strong word-of-mouth and positive audience reactions are helping the film grow rather than slow down.

The story follows a young man whose life changes after a strange romantic arrangement leads to dark and disturbing events.

The film is also getting good ratings and is especially popular among younger viewers in movie theaters.
