to the editor: Columnist Anita Chabria is right in her assessment of the governor's debate (“90 minutes, 6 gubernatorial candidates, zero great moments, but some differences that matter” April 23). I love California, but I don't love what happened under Governor Gavin Newsom. It seems that he did nothing and the State is very in debt. We just need one good gubernatorial candidate, just good, not even great, and no one stands out.
Democrats are the same as Newsom. They gave it high marks when asked: how could they do it? Put it in the “gutsless” category. The Republicans are not much better. There is no inspiration here. But everyone should vote, and I will.

to the editor: If Katie Porter were a man, her positions on the issues would have received more than a passing nod. But there, once again, Porter's “temperament” was mentioned. Maybe if she “smiled more” she would have been taken seriously.
We don't need charisma. We need solutions. Porter came out ahead in that test.

to the editor: I am disappointed that the debate moderators did not ask the following simple question to each of the six participants: “Who won the 2020 presidential election?” (“California's leading gubernatorial candidates argue about wealth, experience and race in heated debate” April 22) The answers would have told the audience everything they needed to know about each candidate's suitability.
