JD Vance applauded by college football fans alongside his wife Usha in North Carolina

Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance took a trip to Greenville, North Carolina, on Saturday with his wife Usha, and they arrived ready for game day.

The couple landed in the afternoon and visited a popular college football bar, Sup Dogs.

There they were greeted with a thunderous ovation from the bar's patrons.

Inside, the couple mingled with locals and East Carolina Pirates football fans before the team's game against Appalachian State on Saturday.

JD and Usha then headed to East Carolina University's Dowdy-Ficklin Stadium. When they arrived, they stepped out of their vehicle to more raucous cheers from the fans there.

A huge crowd chanted “USA!” as Vance walked.

Vance and his wife took the field for the national anthem.

Vance is a well-known college football fan, but not necessarily a fan of any North Carolina team. As an Ohio native and Ohio State University alumnus, Vance is a lifelong Buckeyes fan.

Vance previously revealed that he had told Trump that his loyalty to the Buckeyes could hurt the former president's chances in Michigan in November, when Trump chose him as his running mate.

“When he first asked me to be vice president, I said, 'Well, you know, I hope we don't lose Michigan by like 900 votes, because you're going to regret it. Because it's probably just a thousand angry Wolverine fans who wouldn't vote for a Buckeye.'

“But I think most Michiganders will be able to put aside sports rivalries and put country first, which is of course what we all believe is most important,” Vance said during an appearance on OutKick's show. “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.”

Vance has proposed that he and Trump visit Ohio Stadium at Ohio State for the Buckeyes' Nov. 30 game against Michigan.

“Well, let's go to the Ohio State-Michigan game, assuming we win, because I bet I can get some really good tickets as vice president-elect, and we'll be in the mood to celebrate,” Vance told OutKick. “And, look, it's going to be a great game this year.

“I think this will determine the final seeding for the College Football Playoff. I mean, both teams could make the playoffs. I know people aren't ranking Michigan that high this year, but you never know because they're always a good program. So we'll see, guys. I feel really good about the Buckeyes. I feel really good about the Bengals.”
