Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has finally spoken about the news related to his marriage to tennis star Sania Mirza.
Shortly after several media outlets reported on their marriage, several posts with manipulated images of the sports personalities' wedding appeared on social media last month.
Sania's father has already completely denied these reports, saying that they have never met, let alone married. “This is all nonsense. She has never even met him,” Imran Mirza told the media on June 21.
Several Indian websites including Masala, current times, and Zoom had reported that Sania and Shami would tie the knot on August 20, 2024.
After remaining silent about the rumour for about a month, Shami said it was strange to open his phone and see his own photo with someone.
“I think memes are for fun, but if they are related to someone's life, then they have to be done with a lot of consideration. People share such news from unverified pages and then they leave,” she said in response to a question about rumours that the two athletes are getting married.
In an interview with a YouTuber, the pacemaker said that it was weird and that they did it on purpose to have a little fun.
The Indian cricketer warned those spreading fake news: “If you have guts, speak from verified pages and then I will tell you.”
He said it is very easy to make fun of someone. “First you work hard, achieve success, level up and help someone, only then will I believe you are a good person,” he said.
Shami urged people to be responsible on social media and refrain from spreading such unwarranted news.
