Demand for air travel continued to rise in 2024, driven by a rebound in international travel.

From January to October alone, worldwide revenue passenger miles, a metric of demand, rose nearly 11% from last year, according to the International Air Transport Association. In 2025, IATA estimates that aircraft departures will amount to 40 million, 4.6% more than in 2024.

Airlines have rushed to add flights and increase premium seats, driving higher revenues, especially on long-haul trips. Challenges, from a shortage of new aircraft to financial conflicts, continued for some airlines; However, many passengers did not face the same flight disruptions as they did during the severe staffing shortages that emerged from the pandemic.
