Well-known Tamil actor Vijay recently launched a political party in Tamil Nadu after Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) leaders appointed him party chief.

The newly formed party, called 'Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam', which loosely translates as 'Tamil Nadu Victory Party', is expected to make its mark in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections in 2026.

Vijay has declared that his party will not contest the Lok Sabha elections and will not support any other political party, as decided in the recently held general council and executive council meetings. NDTV reported.

“I have decided to complete the film to which I have already committed, without affecting the party work and fully involve myself in public service politics. I consider this as my gratitude towards the people of Tamil Nadu.” Press Trust of India (PTI) quoted, quoting Vijay.

His announcement has sparked spontaneous celebrations from his fans across the state, known for stars moving from films to politics, including late veterans Maruthur Gopalan (MG) Ramachandran MG Ramachandran and Jayaram Jayalalithaa.

Vijay, known for his notable performance in 68 films, has pursued political ambitions for over a decade and has been involved in fan clubs in various charitable initiatives including food distribution, educational scholarships and libraries among others.

Recently, he organized a program to honor students who performed best in public exams, where he encouraged them to read about leaders and advised them to “take the good and leave the rest.”
