The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that 'is strongly opposed' to the displacement of Gaza's residents after Trump floats the reurbing plan.
Malaysia has said that “he firmly opposes” the forced resettlement of Palestinians in Gaza after the president of the United States, Donald Trump, said Washington would take care of the enclave under an extraordinary re -urbanization plan.
The forced displacement of the Palestinians would constitute ethnic cleaning and a violation of international law and multiple resolutions of the UN, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia said Thursday.
“Any attempt, whether direct or indirect, to impose solutions unilaterally and forcefully that ignores the right of the Palestinian people to self -determination and infringing their freedom is unacceptable, unjustifiable and will only deepen even more one of the longer conflicts in the region “He said the ministry in a statement.
“Malaysia continues in solidarity with the people of Palestine. The only viable path to peace and lasting stability in the Middle East is through the establishment of an independent and sovereign state of Palestine, based on borders prior to 1967, with this Jerusalem as its capital. “
The Ministry added that the international community should join in “a credible and permanent solution that is acceptable to the Palestinians”, and reiterated its support for diplomatic efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state.
In comments to Parliament later on Thursday, Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan said that Gazans' proposed resettlement was “deeply unfortunate.”
“The Palestinian people themselves have declared that they will not leave their homeland. Malaysia's support to Palestine is not temporary. We have long supported his fight for an independent state, ”said Mohamad.
Malaysia, where approximately two thirds of the population are Muslims, has no diplomatic relations with Israel and for a long time has been a firm defender of the Palestinian cause.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, has vocally opposed to the Israel War in Gaza, supporting the case of Genocide of South Africa against the country in the International Court of Justice, as well as demands its expulsion from the United Nations.
The leader of Malaysia has also rejected Western pressure to separate relations with Hamas, the Palestinian group that governs Gaza.
Trump's proposal to take charge and “possess” Gaza has been flatly rejected by Palestinian organizations, including Hamas, the Palestinian authority and the Palestinian Liberation Organization, and widely criticized by the international community.
On Wednesday, the members of the Trump administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, seemed to go back in the proposals, saying that any resettlement of Palestinians would occur temporarily while Gaza was being rebuilt.
