Half a year into Israel's war against the Gaza Strip, much of the enclave has been reduced to rubble, its largest hospital is non-functional and the toll continues to rise: nearly 34,000 people have been killed and more than 76,000 injured. .

Al-Shifa hospital has continually been at the center of hostilities. Israeli forces have attacked it several times, with the latest two-week siege in March being the last. The World Health Organization declared this month that the Gaza City hospital is now “an empty shell” and “completely non-functional.”
