'I love my black job': Simone Biles criticises Trump's comments on immigrants

Simone Biles may be a little busy in Paris this week, but the great American gymnast seems to be keeping abreast of what's happening at home.

On Friday morning, the day after winning her second gold medal at these Olympics and the day before the first of her three remaining chances to add to her medal tally in 2024, Biles turned to X to make an apparent dig at former President Trump, the current Republican presidential nominee.

“I love my black job,” Biles wrote.

Here's the backstory.

Speaking about immigration during his June 27 debate with President Biden, Trump said immigrants “are now taking black jobs.”

This week, Trump made a similar comment onstage at the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual convention in Chicago: “I will tell you, across the border, millions and millions of people are taking jobs from black people,” he said.

Asked to define a “black job,” Trump replied: “A black job is anybody who has a job. That’s what it is, anybody who has a job. They’re taking jobs away from black people… The black population is the ones who are most affected by that.”

On Thursday, Ricky Davila — who describes himself in his X bio as a “singer-songwriter, foodie, and political junkie” and whose feed contains numerous comments critical of Trump — posted two photos of Biles wearing the women’s all-around gold medal she won that day.

“Simone Biles being the greatest of all time, winning gold medals and dominating gymnastics is her black work,” Dávila wrote in the post.

The next day, Biles reposted Davila's post, along with her own comment about her “black work.”

Shortly after, Lakers superstar LeBron James reposted Biles' post and called her the Black GOAT (greatest of all time).
