Formula One: Verstappen wins the Spanish Grand Prix and extends his lead in the championship | motorsports news

The three-time Red Bull world champion achieves seven victories in 10 races by defeating Lando Norris in Barcelona.

Three-time Red Bull world champion Max Verstappen won the Spanish Grand Prix from McLaren polesitter Lando Norris to extend his lead in the world motorsport championship.

Lewis Hamilton completed the podium on Sunday at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, the first podium of the season for the seven-time former Mercedes champion.

The races may be closer than the last two seasons, but Verstappen always seems to get it out of the bag when it matters most.

This was the 61st victory of his career, the seventh of the season and the fourth at the track where he first entered the Formula One (F1) scene as a teenager in 2016.

Verstappen now leads the F1 drivers' championship with 219 points. Norris moves into second place in the championship standings with 150 points, overtaking Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who has 148 points.
