Police in Whittier, California, said at least two people were shot dead and one wounded after a shooting broke out at an auto body shop on Sunday.
According to local authorities, the incident took place at Lambert Road and Painter Avenue, where the bodies of the people shot were found inside a trailer.
The authorities indicated that the shooting occurred after 1 a.m. on Sunday and that the injured man was taken to the hospital, describing his condition as “critical.”
Police did not release any further information about the suspect. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
Authorities said they have launched an investigation into the incident.
In a separate incident, Chicago police said at least five people were injured when a shooting occurred during an argument in the 3500 block of West 30th Street in Little Village at 3:38 a.m.
Chicago police noticed an armed suspect pull out a gun and shoot at people before getting out of a van.
Three women were also shot, authorities said. The injured were taken to a hospital where a woman was in critical condition.
There have been no arrests in both incidents.
These shootings come weeks after the Perry High School shooting that occurred on January 4th and killed two people.
The mass shootings raised concerns about gun violence, which is a common problem in the United States. According to the data, guns outnumber the population of the United States and attempts to address their spread face substantial political resistance.
The United States has already witnessed three mass shootings in the first days of the year, according to Gun Violence Archive, an NGO that defines a mass shooting as an incident that results in four or more people injured or killed.
School shootings, in particular, serve as poignant reminders of the political gridlock over gun control. In a tragic incident that occurred in Uvalde, Texas, in May 2022, a man took the lives of 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school.
