It's hard to believe, but the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will close on August 11, and the Paralympics will end on September 8. After the medal events, Olympic and Paralympic athletes will return home… and they'll all be taking a new phone with them.
As with previous Olympics, Samsung is a sponsor, giving each Olympian and Paralympian a special edition of its latest foldable phone. It’s called the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition, and it comes with a special edition Flip leather case. It’s also a very limited edition, with only around 17,000 units made.
There’s a good chance you’ve seen an unboxing on social media, especially if you’re on Olympic TikTok. If you’ve been watching the games, aside from the tremendous talent of each athlete, there’s one thing in common between everyone who wins bronze, silver or gold: a victory selfie taken with a small, boxy yellow phone — the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition is very similar to the one you and I can buy, and you can read our detailed review of the Z Flip 6. It's the same yellow hue available to everyone, with some custom graphics on the back – namely the Olympic and Paralympic logos, indicating that Samsung is an official sponsor.
On the device, you’ll find the same Samsung OneUI on top of Android and plenty of pre-loaded apps that will come in handy in the Olympic Village. It also has a custom home screen with a note from Samsung to Paralympic and Olympic athletes. The case itself shows off a custom wallpaper on the front and offers a nice pop of color and some protection between the mix of plastic and leather. You can watch us unbox the Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition below.
Other than that, it’s the same Galaxy Z Flip 6, with a 3.4-inch cover display and a 6.7-inch main display, both of which are AMOLED for a vibrant viewing experience. As for the cameras, two lenses on the front are handy for snapping a selfie with an Olympic medal or just taking photos on a regular day. The 50-megapixel wide and 12-megapixel ultrawide lenses use the cover display as an easy viewfinder.
Above, you can see some promotional photos of athletes using the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Olympic Edition on the podium to take a selfie on one of the grandest stages in the world. If you're eager to check out the Olympic edition of this foldable phone or you own one and aren't an Olympic or Paralympic athlete, some of them have been popping up on resale sites like eBay.
As I write this, I see several on eBay (some new in the box, some lightly used) for as low as $1,500, but many with offers for much higher. You can see the search results for the phone here; some even mention the included electronic SIM card with data to get you started.
Of course, if you want to take a victory selfie, you can get a standard Galaxy Z Flip 6, which has many of the same features, minus the Paralympic or Olympic logos and no limited-edition case. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 starts at $1,099, but as always, there are various promotions and discounts available.
