Trump's repeated lies about our elections show a lack of respect

to the editor: President Trump's failure to address the American people in February to formally explain his launch of war in Iran showed a lack of respect. His choice to give a prime-time speech from the White House on Thursday about so-called election integrity was also disrespectful, given the lies and exaggerations in his speech (“Trump repeats debunked claims about voting vulnerabilities in prime-time speech,” July 16).

For example, its special investigation into the recent California elections incorrectly confused the end of the vote count with the official certification of the votes. Trump's speech left the impression that he is hopelessly addicted to lies, smears and conspiracy theories. His discussion of “electoral integrity” turns a serious issue into a false one, manipulated in his favor.

I recommend that Trump remain silent: no more high-sounding speeches, self-serving rants, or unserious all-caps Internet postings until he has something decent to say that deserves our attention.
