to the editor: Not long after Sid and Marty Krofft's triumphantly vulgar shows livened up Saturday mornings, reforms were launched in terms of children's entertainment (“Appreciation: Sid Krofft's subversive, fantastical TV puppet worlds will live on”. April 13). Kidvid couldn't just be a nutcase anymore; it had to incorporate “learning” and “values.”
So why didn't the reforms work? Decades later, test results and social etiquette have reached epic levels as we read more and more about children struggling with depression and anxiety. Maybe it's time to bring back the playful nonsense.
