to the editor: Gustavo Arellano's recent commentary on the Dodgers' visit to the White House with President Trump was informative, factual, and painfully accurate (“Go visit the Trump White House, Dodgers, but defend Los Angeles while you're there.” July 23).
More than any other professional team, over the past 80 years, the Dodgers have symbolized good in our country and in Major League Baseball.
Therefore, it has become painful to see the team's reputation tarnished by one of the most corrupt and immoral presidents in our nation's history. President Trump's apparent dislike of the Dodgers' large Latino fan base only compounds the difficulties.
This is not about patriotism, respect, the office of president or politics. It's about paying attention to someone who is breaking the bank with a record containing the most egregious offenses.
Where is Jackie Robinson when you need him? The fans cry for him.

to the editor: It is MLB tradition that World Series champions visit the White House. I don't remember Arellano writing columns about championship teams when they visited the Clinton and Obama White Houses. Both President Clinton and Obama (the latter nicknamed “the deporter in chief”) deportee many more people than Trump in his first term.
I saw a lot of happy Dodgers at the White House on Thursday. It stops raining at the Dodgers fan parade.
