Letters to the editor: In a jungle primary, Democrats should not attack each other

to the editor: It's shocking that in a Democratic state like California, a Republican can outperform the second-place Democrat in our jungle primary (“Karen Bass and Xavier Becerra lead new poll for mayor of Los Angeles and governor of California” May 13). However, it's less surprising when you look at the way Tom Steyer and Xavier Becerra attack each other. This tactic would be normal in the usual Democratic primaries, where candidates compete against each other in the primaries and then attack their Republican opponent in the general, but it's the opposite in a jungle primary.

In a jungle primary, Democrats would have to run as a team in the primary to keep Republicans out, and then face each other in the general election. They should both be attacking Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco right now, not each other. Could someone explain to them how a jungle primary works?
