Do you sleep with your shoes in bed? So why sleep next to a dog?

To the editor: I just have one question for columnist Robin Abcarian and other people who sleep next to their dogs in bed.

Would you put the shoes you wear for walking outside (or even inside on your rugs) directly on your blankets or pillows? However, you seem unaware of where your dog's paws (or the rest of your dog's body) have been. How is that?

To the editor: As a gun dog trainer specializing in pointing breeds, I read Abcarian's column with interest.

I always felt that taking my dogs to bed would challenge the “pack leader” status I had over my students. This is just my feeling and has not been proven.

I'd like to add a pro training tip for people with larger, more stubborn breeds who beat you to bed and won't let you get to your spot: Ring the doorbell and get back to bed early.

To the editor: I read Abcarian's column with interest and amusement. In my house, we don't sleep with our cats so much as under or around them.
