Video captured on Mount Wilson in the Angeles National Forest showed a black bear attacking a hiker.
The video, which Eric Chiu posted to Instagram on Monday, shows a hiker walking toward a black bear (which looks brown) and making noise with bells to try to get the bear to leave.
Instead, the bear charges directly at the hiker before the video stops. The hiker and the person filming apparently escaped unharmed.
“I was thinking this guy is crazy and I hope nothing happens to him,” Chiu told NBC Los Angeles. “To be honest, I'm not sure what was going through his mind, because the last thing you would think is that someone would walk towards a bear. And at that moment, I was a little worried for his safety.”
The video was recorded by Chiu's stepmother, who saw the bear from a distance, she wrote in the caption.
The bear did not hurt anyone and it was a “false charge,” Chiu wrote.
