Truck driver behind deadly I-10 crash sentenced to 4 years, 8 months


The driver of a truck that caused an eight-vehicle collision on Highway 10 in Ontario that killed three people has been sentenced to four years and eight months in state prison.

In the October collision last year, Jashanpreet Singh, of Yuba City, California, failed to brake due to slowing traffic. Dashboard camera video showed the big rig he was driving plow through several passenger cars before crashing into a truck. One of the cars burst into flames. In addition to the fatalities, four people were injured in the accident.

Singh, who was 21 at the time of the crash, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in June to three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, court records show.

The Oct. 21, 2025, collision occurred as traffic was slowing on the westbound 10 Freeway near the 15 Freeway interchange, according to Officer Joe Garcia, CHP spokesman.

Four trucks and four passenger cars were involved in the accident. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene and four were transported to hospitals for treatment, Garcia said.

Among those killed were former Pomona High School assistant basketball coach Clarence Nelson and his wife, Lisa, according to KTLA report. high school posted a photo of Coach with the words “RIP Coach Nelson and his wife.”

Shortly after the accident, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials issued an arrest warrant (a request to hold a person for possible deportation) for Singh, according to the department's statement. The statement further claimed that Singh had entered the country through the southern border in 2022 and was an undocumented immigrant from India.
