An initial investigation suggests the driver “failed to negotiate a slight curve” just east of Vista Avenue, causing the vehicle to hit the sidewalk and crash into a light pole, Lt. The car stopped a few hundred feet west of the building.

“It was a very major accident,” Russo said. “There are indications that alcohol may have been involved, but we have not confirmed whether the driver was under the influence or intoxicated at the time of the accident.”

More than 500 homes and businesses were left without power in the region due to the collision, which knocked out power lines, authorities said.

All power has since been restored to the area, Pasadena spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.
