Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man suspected of assault at a Palmdale gas station Friday morning, authorities said.
Officers responded to the 13000 block of Pearblossom Highway at 6:48 a.m. after receiving reports that a man armed with a knife was threatening and assaulting someone.
When officers arrived, they encountered a man in his 30s who matched the suspect's description.
“During officers' contact with the suspect, the suspect advanced toward officers armed with a sharp object and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” officials said in a statement.
The man, who was not identified, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities said a “sharp object” was found at the scene.
Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting, Sheriff's Department officials said.
