Maria Manaura, who has been arrested at least eight times in the six months since she arrived in New York City from Venezuela, lives at the Row NYC hotel, once acclaimed for its unbeatable Times Square location and top-notch views. theater district row. He is now drug-infested and violent, but he still costs taxpayers $500 a night for each of the 1,300 rooms given to immigrants.
Manaura was arrested again on Jan. 30 for stealing a woman's cell phone on the No. 6 train. She was charged with grand theft and resisting arrest, but instead of being locked up, Judge Jay Weiner granted supervised release, likely to time for her to return to the hotel and have another prepared meal paid for by you and me. It's disgusting.
Immigrants like Manaura, who have run-ins with police, should not be eligible to receive the city's generosity. Giving free hotel rooms and meals to repeat bullies makes it easier for them to commit crimes and makes us scapegoats.
NEW YORK MAYOR ERIC ADAMS ASKS THE STATE TO COVER 50% OF THE COSTS OF THE CITY'S MIGRANT CRISIS
The Democratic Party is turning New York City into a Shangri-La for international thief rings and immigrants to come here to rob and rob. Taxpayers foot the bill for the thieves' lodging at the hotel, plus three meals a day and a long list of other benefits, including free bus tickets if they have to get out of town quickly. If you're a criminal, what don't you like?
Immigrants like María Manaura in New York City, who have run-ins with police, should not be eligible for the city's generosity. Giving free hotel rooms and meals to repeat bullies makes it easier for them to commit crimes and makes us scapegoats.
This stupidity is not new. For more than a year, New York City has coddled criminal immigrants with long rap sheets, sheltering and feeding them as they continue their crime spree.
Last year, while announcing the arrests of immigrants who stole $12,489 worth of goods from Macy's at Roosevelt Field, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder warned of “organized theft groups that are being sent here for the purpose of to commit crimes here. “Two of the arrested men lived at the Watson Hotel on West 57th Street, courtesy of taxpayers.
Fast forward to the immigrants who beat up two NYPD officers in Times Square on January 27th. This started as a retail crime. That night, a gang of immigrants had just robbed the Aldo clothing store, grabbing bags and running, as they did every day, when they were interrupted by the police.
Many of the seven attackers arrested that night had had numerous previous run-ins with the law. According to former NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Terrorism John Miller, “they were operating on mopeds and scooters. They were carrying out organized retail robberies.”

Here's the catch: they lived in city shelters. Taxpayers provided these career criminals with a roof over their heads and food. We are the fools.
In 2022, Immigration and Customs Enforcement launched a crackdown on international retail theft rings. But Democratic politicians in New York have vowed never to cooperate with ICE. Too bad for the companies and citizens here.
In December, Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, said at a House hearing that international criminal networks are exploiting President Joe Biden's open borders and targeting Democratic states with soft-on-crime policies, such as releasing suspects without bail and consider thefts under $1,000 as misdemeanors, not felonies.
Miller said retail theft gangs based in Florida come to New York, where the profits are good and the risk of going to jail is minimal. If they robbed stores in Florida, they'd be locked up.
But there's no problem robbing stores in Illinois. Last fall, Oak Brook Deputy Police Chief Reid Foltyniewicz said, “We want everyone to be aware of the increase in criminal activity in the immigrant community coming from Chicago.”
Still, nothing compares to the favorable treatment criminally inclined immigrants get in the Big Apple. And it's getting sweeter. Last week, Mayor Eric Adams signed contracts for $137 million more to spend on hotel rooms for immigrants, and announced that the city will provide debit cards (worth up to $1,000 a month) that will allow immigrants buy culturally attractive foods. That gives immigrants the same purchasing power as low-income New Yorkers who are here legally.

Immigrants will be required to sign an affidavit indicating they will spend the funds only on food and baby items. That's a laugh.
But there is nothing funny about an invasion by professional criminals posing as asylum seekers. New York has a heart, but it's time for New York to use its brain and stop making our city a haven for the thieves of the world.
