Cedric Alexander's first defense of the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) X Division Championship came at Slammiversary on Sunday night and he had the difficult task of retaining the title in an Ultimate X match.
It was the 55th Ultimate X match in TNA history with Alexander facing Amazing Red, Frankie Kazarian, Fabian Aichner, Leon Slater, KC Navarro and Mr. Elegance. It was also Red's first appearance in a TNA ring in about 15 years. To win, the competitor had to climb one of the pillars, move along the cables high above the ring, and grab the belt.

Alexander, Kazarian, Red and Aichner tried to go after the belt at the same time. Alexander slipped and knocked Aichner down. Red and Kazarian fell to the canvas. It allowed Red and Kazarian to show what they had left in the tank. Elegancia tried to take advantage of the fact that everyone was outside the ring, but Navarro closed his chances.
Red came into the ring with Navarro and handed him a Code Red. Then he did the same with Kazarian. He tried to fight for the title but Slater caught him.

Slater gained some momentum when he realized his path to the title was blocked. He achieved a double blockbuster to eliminate Aichner, Elegance, Kazarian and Navarro. He then attempted to carry Red to the title in the middle of the wireline. Slater's belt was unbuckled as he and Red dangled from the cables.
But Alexander entered the ring and stole the belt from Slater's hands.
He was determined the winner because neither Slater nor Red touched the mat.
