Boating accident in Long Beach leaves one dead and ten injured


One person was killed and several others injured Wednesday night when a 48-foot motorboat crashed into the Alamitos Bay pier in Long Beach.

The Long Beach Fire Department responded around 9:21 p.m. and found 11 people at the scene, including a man in his 50s who had died in the crash.

Six patients requiring advanced care were transported by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics to hospitals, while four others were taken to hospitals by emergency medical technicians, said Capt. Jack Crabtree of the Long Beach Fire Department.

Crabtree said the boat was believed to have been travelling at 40 mph when it struck the jetty.

Authorities have not released additional information on the cause of the accident.

The incident is under investigation.
