A standoff with a SWAT team ensued Sunday night after an armed suspect, wanted for the alleged attempted murder of a sheriff's deputy, fled from Beverly Hills police in a pickup truck and crashed into a vehicle Sunday.
Around 11 p.m., the suspect had released a female hostage inside his vehicle, and a Los Angeles County SWAT team was still attempting to negotiate with the suspect to surrender, the Sheriff's Department said. The vehicle was located at Robertson Boulevard and Burton Way, which is on the border between Beverly Hills and the Beverly Grove neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The suspect is accused of using his vehicle to hit a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy in the unincorporated community of Lennox around 3 a.m. Sunday, near Inglewood, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.
The predawn stop by authorities occurred around the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and West 104th Street. Details were not immediately available about the initial reasons behind the stop. At one point there were attempts to stop him. A struggle ensued, and as the suspect fled, his vehicle struck an officer, Koerner said. The deputy did not suffer any major injuries.
Then, around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Beverly Hills police received an alert from the automated license plate recognition system that detected the suspect's vehicle: a gray Ford pickup truck. “Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop when a brief chase ensued,” the Beverly Hills Police Department said in a statement.
“The chase ended when the suspect vehicle collided with a second vehicle in the area of Burton Way and Robertson Boulevard,” police said. That's a major intersection adjacent to the Beverly Center shopping center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
In addition to the alleged attempted murder, “the suspect is wanted on additional charges in the city of Beverly Hills,” the Sheriff's Department said in a statement. No additional details were immediately provided.
The department was contacted around 3 pm Sunday to assist Beverly Hills Police in responding to the barricaded suspect.
