2026 World Cup Odds: Can Canada Top Group B?

As one of three co-host countries, Canada's first match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup ended in a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After allowing an early goal in the 21st minute off a corner kick, Canada tied the score with a 78th-minute equalizer from Cyle Larin.

While many thought Friday would finally be the day, Canada has still never won a FIFA Men's World Cup match.

But it could have been much worse, as they were trailing for most of the match.

With the tie, Canada's odds have only decreased slightly. Before the game, Canada had odds of 200-1 to win the World Cup. That number has now fallen to 250-1.

Although Canada had to settle for a draw in its first match, a day later it received the best news possible.

In a dramatic turn of events on Saturday, Qatar scored a goal in extra time to force an unexpected draw against Switzerland, a result that greatly affects Group B's prospects.

Instead of being two points down, Canada is now tied for the lead after the first matchday series.

Canada will take on Qatar on Friday with a great chance to claim their first career World Cup victory as they look to be on top of Group B at the end of the day.

Here are the updated odds for how Canada will fare in this year's tournament starting June 17.

What to know: Canada has only qualified to play in the world event three times: 1986, 2022 and now 2026. While the Canadians ended a 36-year drought with their appearance in 2022, it was short-lived as they were eliminated in the group stage with a 0-0-3 record. They will look to build on the strong momentum they gained after finishing fourth at the Copa América 2024. After registering their first point in the men's World Cup, Les Rouges will look to be in the win column in the remaining two group matches against Qatar and Switzerland. Heading into their second group stage match, Canadian Alphonso Davies will be available to play (according to Jesse Marsch) for Canada against Qatar after missing the opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
