While the world said goodbye to 2023 with some reflections on various aspects of the outgoing year, renowned footballer Lionel Messi took a much more optimistic approach and decided to welcome 2024 instead of reflecting on the past.

Messi, who was named Times Athlete of the Year 2023, after having a rather eventful year when he debuted with Inter Miami, owned by David Beckham, in Major League Soccer (MLS), he took to social media to share a family portrait in which his wife Antonella appears Roccuzzo and his three children, Thiago. The star footballer said goodbye to 2023 after having made a notable impact on the world of football, especially his decision to join the MLS which has since brought notable prominence to the league.

However, the acclaimed forward will miss almost half a dozen games next season due to his commitments to the Argentine national team throughout 2024, especially in the Copa América scheduled for June and July of this year.

Messi will miss at least five MLS games from June 15 to July 6. Additionally, there is a possibility that he will miss two early-season games with Miami in March, coinciding with a FIFA international break. The specific matches that Argentina will play during this period are yet to be confirmed.
