Sinbad says 'miracles happen' amid stroke recovery

Sinbad informed his fans that a comeback is finally on the horizon, years after suffering an ischemic stroke in 2020.

“Expect to see more of me soon,” the comedian said during his return to social media on Monday. “And don't be scared if you turn around and I'm right behind you.”

The “Jingle All the Way” and “Sinbad Show” star, 67, reflected on a recent public appearance and thanked fans for their continued support in an Instagram video. Last week, via Zoom, she joined her former “A Different World” co-stars, including Cree Summer, Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy and Dawnn Lewis, to help kick off a 10-city college and university reunion tour historically black.

Sinbad, who played Coach Walter Oaks on the “Cosby Show” spinoff, addressed attendees at the tour's first stop at the Atlanta University Center on Thursday. Rewatching his speech to students at Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College, Sinbad said, “Man, that was great.”

“It's amazing that kids know who I am,” he said on Instagram. “That is beautiful.”

The comedian (born David Adkins) felt the “Different World” love more than three years after suffering a stroke, which was the result of a blood clot that traveled from his heart to his brain. Sinbad's health scare, post-stroke surgeries, and recovery from him are detailed on “The Journey Forward” website. In a statement published in November 2022, the site revealed that he received “intense therapy” at the California Rehabilitation Institute and learned to walk again.

“In his own words, 'I'm not done. I won't stop fighting until I can get back on stage,'” the family said in November 2022. “And neither will we.”

On Monday, the “Where Have You Been?” The comedian said he was grateful for the fans who kept him in their thoughts and prayed for him. He added that he plans to return that love.

“To all the people who have emailed me through the website: some of you are going through what I am going through or even worse than me,” he said. “I'm going to try to answer as many as I can. I pray for you and I understand what it is like.”

In the comments for Sinbad in the midst of his recovery, other stars such as Robin Thede, Wanda Sykes, Judd Apatow, Terry Crews and Lil Rel Howery expressed their support. “I can not stop smiling! I love you Sinbad! Good to see you bro.❤️💪🏾,” Sykes wrote.

The comedian concluded his video by mocking the audience who might be in disbelief at a comeback.

He said, “Can't you believe it? You better believe it. Miracles happen.”
