- Sher Afzal Marwat says Fawad fled after seeing the police.
- Fawad's escape has embarrassed the PTI, he says.
- Following Fawad's criticism, PTI closes party doors to defectors.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party leader Sher Afzal Marwat has slammed former federal minister Fawad Chaudary, saying he has no right to criticise the party's current leadership.
While speaking to the media, the PTI lawmaker said, “I witnessed Fawad Chaudhary running like an elephant after seeing the police outside the Islamabad High Court.”
He added that his escape had brought shame to PTI and hence he should not give any advice to anyone.
Asked about Fawad's comment of calling the current PTI leadership a “failure”, Marwat said that no matter how failed our leadership is, at least “we stand by Imran Khan in difficult times and do not run away like him.”
Fawad had criticised the PTI leadership, saying, “Due to the lack of political strategy of the current PTI leadership, we are all suffering,” and that there is “no chance” of the jailed party founder Imran being released in the presence of the current PTI leadership.
He felt that “electable” politicians like Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pervaiz Elahi and Asad Qaiser should lead the party and that the current PTI leaders should stop doing “nonsense”.
Responding to Fawad's strong criticism, the PTI central committee “unanimously” passed a resolution stating that defectors who broke away from the party founded by Imran during trying times will not be welcomed back.
PTI chairman Advocate Gohar Ali Khan said they would request the jailed party founder to accept the recommendations of the central committee.
