ISLAMABAD: As part of the power-sharing deal agreed upon by Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on government formation, the former has shortlisted senior leader Qamar Zaman Kaira along with two other leaders. for the governor of Punjab, News reported on Monday.

Sources say the other two PPP leaders being considered by the Bilawal Bhutto-led party for the much-sought post include Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood and Chaudhry Riaz.

Meanwhile, the party is holding consultations for the post of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governor and will announce the names of both the constitutional posts after the presidential elections are held on March 9, sources added.

The development comes as both parties reached an agreement last month to form a coalition government at the Center in which the PPP, with its 54 seats in the National Assembly, agreed to support the PML-N in forming the government after that neither of the two parties managed to secure a simple majority in the lower house in the general elections of February 8.

After several rounds of talks held between both sides, it was decided that the PPP would get several constitutional posts, including the governorship of Punjab and KP, along with the post of president, for which Asif Ali Zardari has filed his nomination papers, and that of deputy of the National Assembly. president, for whom Syed Ghulam Mustafa was elected last week.

Meanwhile, the PML-N was able to bring in its own prime minister and speaker of the National Assembly as part of the deal.

A day earlier, Shehbaz Sharif of the PML-N was elected as the 24th prime minister by winning 201 votes in the National Assembly after PPP lawmakers, along with members of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML -Q), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and others voted in favor of the PML-N.

Furthermore, the PPP managed to secure the support of the PML-N to form its government in Balochistan with Sarfraz Bugti as the Chief Minister of the province.

Meanwhile, PML-N's Abdul Khaliq Achakzai and PPP's Ghazala Gola were elected as Balochistan Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.
