LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership has decided to transfer the party's information secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb to the Punjab Assembly so that she can help Maryam Nawaz once she is elected chief minister.

After the general elections on February 8, the Punjab Assembly will begin its inaugural session on Friday (today), in which the newly elected members will take oath.

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and President Shehbaz Sharif arrived at this decision after consultations. They decided that today he would take oath as an MPA in the Punjab Assembly instead of returning to the National Assembly.

Marriyum was elected to the National Assembly twice in a reserved seat and appointed federal information minister as many times. This will be the first time he will take oath as an AMP in the Punjab Assembly.

While elections are yet to be held to elect the leader of the House in the Punjab Assembly, the PML-N has started grooming Maryam for the chief minister's post as the party has a clear majority in the provincial legislature .

Earlier this week, Maryam chaired a parliamentary meeting attended by 218 MPAs from Punjab, at Jati Umra in Lahore, including independent members, PML-N MPAs and members nominated for reserved seats. Sources said Maryam chaired the said meeting.

According to sources, 137 PML-N candidates, 58 women nominated for reserved seats and over 22 independent members who joined the PML-N after the elections were present.
