Neil Young and Crazy Horse cancel tour and Bowl show: 'I got sick'

Neil Young and Crazy Horse are taking a break from touring, canceling the remaining shows of their Love Earth tour.

Young announced the cancellation Wednesday on his website, citing the health of the Crazy Horse band members, which currently include him, band co-founder Ralph Molina, bassist Billy Talbot and singer Micah Nelson (son of country music legend Willie Nelson). “When a couple of us got sick after Pine Knob in Detroit, we had to stop,” the band wrote in a statement. He did not name which members were dealing with health issues and did not provide further details about the nature of his illness.

“We are not yet fully recovered, so unfortunately our big tour will take a big unplanned hiatus,” the statement continued.

Crazy Horse announced their Love Earth tour in February. The “Down by the River” group played Pine Knob in Michigan and was scheduled to play several shows in Canada in July and the Hollywood Bowl in late September. Now it appears those shows are no more, although the band said they're open to playing those lost dates “as time goes by when we're ready to rock again.”

“Health is number one,” the statement states. “We want to stay and do more shows and more albums for you… and for us.”

The now-canceled tour kicked off with a concert in San Diego in late April, a month after Young reinstated his music on Spotify following a two-year boycott. He removed his catalog in 2022 after taking issue with Spotify's platform for “The Joe Rogan Experience,” accusing the popular podcast of spreading medical misinformation.

In March, Young wrote on his website: “My decision comes as Apple and Amazon services have begun offering the same misinformation podcast features I had opposed on Spotify.”

He added: “I can't just leave Apple and Amazon, like I did with Spotify, because my music would have very little streaming output for music lovers, so I've returned to Spotify.”

Less than two weeks later, Joni Mitchell, who had followed Young's lead in 2022, also quietly returned to the music streaming platform.
