As the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit looms, diplomats and world leaders are expressing concerns about the age and health of U.S. President Joe Biden.

To defeat Donald Trump in the November 4 election, Biden will have to show that he is prepared and strong at the summit, which will be held in Washington next week.

According PoliticalAllies want Biden to run for a second term against Trump but are concerned about his ability to defeat the former president in the next election.

Following the 81-year-old's poor performance in the first presidential debate against the Republican, some European officials have expressed doubts about Biden's stamina and leadership ability.

“It doesn't take a genius to realise that the president is old. We are not sure that even if he wins, he can survive four more years,” said one of the European NATO officials.

Another EU official commented: “We all want Biden to have a second term to avoid having to deal with Trump again, but this is not really reassuring.”

NATO allies are also concerned about how long Biden will be able to maintain US support for European defence, as Trump is skeptical about extending support to other countries.

“We are having more conversations about our own defenses now that it looks like Trump is coming back,” one NATO official said after the debate.

Despite all these concerns, many allies prefer Biden over Trump, but are unsure of Biden's long-term prospects because of his age.

Democrats, some of whom are reportedly considering urging Biden to drop out of the race, have publicly stated, however, that he remains committed to running for reelection.
