“Parenthood” alum Mae Whitman is now a real-life mother.
The actress announced Wednesday that she recently gave birth to her first child, whom she named after her NBC co-star and on-screen brother, Miles Heizer.
“I don’t want to look like Bieber but I too just gave birth to our son, Miles,” Whitman wrote on Instagram, making a cheeky reference to Hailey and Justin Bieber’s recent baby announcement. “The DUFF” star shared a photo of the little one curling his toes around an adult finger.
“From the moment we heard the first sound come out of his little piggy mouth, we were smitten. He is the kindest, gentlest, smartest, funniest little bee and he is our best friend (practically just like his namesake, Uncle Miles),” Whitman wrote. “We are endlessly grateful that he chose us as his parents.”
Whitman, 36, did not share any further details about the newborn or his parentage. A spokesman for the actor did not immediately respond Thursday to The Times' request for further comment.
The “Arrested Development” and “Good Girls” star thanked her doula and the medical staff who helped her with Miles’ birth and “for guiding our little family through all the unexpected twists and turns safely, with love and grace.” Whitman also thanked “everyone in our circle who has shown us so much radical generosity and support. We love you all! We are so happy!”
The child voice actress announced her pregnancy in May with the help of Heizer and her on-screen mother, Lauren Graham, with whom she has stayed in touch since “Parenthood” went off the air in 2015 after six seasons. (The series was based on the 1989 Ron Howard film of the same name.)
“I don't want to do a parenting episode or anything but…!” Whitman wrote on Instagram at the time, alongside a photo of Heizer and Graham. “Mother's Day looks a little different this year… Can't wait to meet you, you huge baby who kicks my insides into a mess!”
