Lupita Nyong'o just revealed how much she wanted to avoid embarrassing herself at the Oscars.
In his exclusive conversation with PEOPLE Magazine, the 41-year-old actress spoke about how she didn't want history to repeat itself.
She recalled that she was extremely nervous at the 2014 Oscars, as she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the film. 12 Years a Slave.
Remembering how the previous year, that is, in 2013, Jennifer Lawrence stumbled when going up on stage after winning an Oscar in the Best Actress category for Handbook of the good side of thingsNyong'o spoke of her anxiety.
“I remember being worried about how much fabric I had to hold up when I walked up the stairs,” Nyong'o said.
She continued: “I was like, 'I can't trip.' Jennifer Lawrence already did it the year before, so it's not cute when you're the second person to trip going up the stairs. That's pathetic.”
The star stressed that she “really didn't want to trip,” adding: “I remember having that fear, and then I remember a stabbing sensation all over my body. It was incredible.”
