Internet users have reported that a suspicious website impersonating the Islamabad Traffic Police was selling fake driving licenses.

On August 7, an X (formerly Twitter) user shared a screenshot of a purported Islamabad Traffic Police webpage that asked users to enter their ID numbers to verify their driving licenses. The post, which included a link to the webpage, claimed that it was a fake website created to sell licenses.

Two Islamabad police officials have confirmed that the website is fraudulent.
Taqi Jawad, the public relations officer of Islamabad police, confirmed to Verification of geographic data The website is not affiliated with Islamabad Police and said: “We are taking action against this fake website. Our cybercrime division is working to get it taken down.”
Abdul Rasheed, sub-inspector of the information technology department of Islamabad police, said that the police have traced the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the fraudulent site and have filed a complaint with the cyber crime department.

Further examination by Verification of geographic data revealed that none of the links on the homepage of the fraudulent website, including “About”, “Services” and “Contact”, are working, indicating that the site is not authentic.
