Kai Trump, the eldest granddaughter of former US President Donald Trump, stole the show as she made her political debut on the stage of the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old daughter of Donald Jr., the former president's eldest son, and his ex-wife, Vanessa, paid a brief but personal tribute to her grandfather, National Public Radio reported.

The 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate smiled throughout her emotional speech.

Kai's father introduced her on stage and said it was “her first time on stage” and “her first time giving a speech.”

After introducing herself to the crowd as “Donald Trump's granddaughter,” Kai began her speech by saying, “I'm speaking today to share the side of my grandfather that people don't often see.

“To me, he's a normal grandfather. He gives us candy and soda when our parents aren't looking. He always wants to know how we're doing in school.”

She continued: “Even when he's going through all these court cases, he always asks me how I'm doing. He always encourages me to strive to be the most successful person I can be.

“Obviously, it sets the bar very high, but who knows, maybe one day I’ll reach it.”

He added: “A lot of people put my grandfather through hell… and he is still standing.”
