Deadpool and Wolverine director says no one gets hurt by these jokes

Director Shawn Levy, who directed Deadpool and Wolverine He assured fans that the movie's jokes were reviewed beforehand.

In a recent interview with VarietyThe filmmaker revealed that both Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Garner felt comfortable including their real-life divorce joke in the film.

“We never made a joke about or with anyone without first consulting with that person,” Levy told the outlet.

He went on to say, “Whether it was in the script, like the Daredevil line, or off-script, like 'He's normally shirtless, but he's been sloppy since the divorce,' which was more of an improvisation on set, Ryan [Reynolds] “I would always go over the lines with the artists and make sure everyone was comfortable and that we were never one-upping anyone.”

“It was all in a playful spirit that made everyone feel good,” Levy said, adding, “Those lines wouldn't be in the movie if Hugh and Jen didn't think they were funny.”

For those unaware, Jackman and his ex-wife split after nearly 30 years of marriage in September 2023.

While Garner and Ben Afflick married in 2005 and separated in 2015.

In the film, Reynolds in character made a joke about Jackman's physique before his divorce, while Garner in her reprised role dismissed Deadpool's condolences over the loss of his on-screen romantic interest, Daredevil, played by Affleck in 2004.
