Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin on Thursday expressed his deepest condolences over the passing away of former Pakistani Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz and praised his outstanding contribution to China-Pakistan relations.
Aziz, also a former finance minister and adviser to the prime minister on foreign affairs, died on Tuesday in Islamabad.
“Mr Aziz was an experienced politician, strategist and economic expert of Pakistan, and an old and good friend of the Chinese people,” Wang said at a regular news conference.
Wang said Aziz dedicated himself to the prosperity of Pakistan, worked hard and passionately to promote China-Pakistan relations, and made outstanding contributions to friendly cooperation between China and Pakistan, especially the launch and construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
“We express our deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. Aziz and our deepest condolences to his family,” the spokesperson said.
The former foreign minister was buried on Wednesday at Islamabad’s H8 cemetery.
