Blake Lively is coming under fire from all sides as a video resurfaced showing her awkward comment about her. Gossip Girl Castmates.
In a now-viral TikTok clip, Lively seemingly disses her co-stars Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick and Penn Badgley at a 2008 panel discussion at Paleyfest.
Lively was revealing the 'promises' Gossip Girl The creators created her so that she would agree to star as “It girl” Serena van der Woodsen in the teen drama.
Lively jokingly mentioned a promise involving Westwick's character, Chuck Bass, who in the original books has a pet monkey.
“Another promise was that there would be no pet monkeys,” she recalled. “Chuck has a pet monkey with matching outfits. And I was like, 'I'd love to be a part of the show, but I can't act with a monkey,'” Lively said with a laugh.
He then turned to the left and gestured toward his co-stars, saying, “Well, I've got some of them.”
Meester, who was sitting next to Lively, did not look amused and scrunched up her face at the blow.
Westwick and Badgley, who were also sitting to her left, looked down without smiling. Lively immediately insisted it was a joke.
“Come on, it was a joke! Lord, have mercy!” he exclaimed as the clip ended on an awkward note.
Unlike the audience who burst out laughing, the joke was not appreciated in the comments section of the video shared by TikTok user @thedisasterguru.
“That is SO Sarah Jessica Parker coded,” one TikTok user commented, further explaining that the term basically means someone is “self-centered but always acts like a nice person.”
A second user added: “Are they realising this now? Blake Lively always reminded me of Mean Girls.” Others were shocked that Lively and Meester weren't close in real life and speculated that moments like this could be the reason why.
“Leighton just sat there and thought this day would come,” one fan wrote with a laughing emoji.
“I can't wait to see all the Blake clips that are resurfacing,” said another, referring to his old interviews that have been resurfacing in light of his recent responses in media talks for his new film. Ends with us.
A TikTok user recalled a situation during a Brotherhood of the Traveling Pants interview where Lively seemed to dominate the conversation, leaving her co-star, America Ferrera, visibly uncomfortable.
The recent backlash overshadowed her controversy with the film's director and co-star Justin Baldoni, as the two avoided each other in promotions for the movie after he reportedly made her feel “uncomfortable” with her postpartum body during filming.
However, Lively's decision to focus press conversations on her red carpet outfits rather than the film's domestic violence theme fueled the issue against the actress herself.
Clips of at least four old interviews have since surfaced on social media and her blunt responses have sparked a backlash online.
