- Captain Osama gives his life for Pakistan's defence: ISPR
- ISPR says troops attacked the terrorists' location.
- Two terror operatives killed in gunfight, says ISPR
RAWALPINDI: A Pakistan Army captain embraced martyrdom in a gunfight with terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's North Waziristan district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) agency reported on Tuesday.
As security forces step up efforts to eradicate the scourge of terrorism from the country, Captain Muhammad Osama bin Arshad, 24, a resident of Rawalpindi district, laid down his life in defence of the homeland.
“On July 9, 2024, an exchange of fire took place between security forces and terrorists in North Waziristan district,” the military’s media wing reported.
The ISPR statement claimed that the two terrorists were “sent to hell” when the troops effectively attacked the terrorists' location during the fierce exchange of fire.
However, Captain Muhammad Osama, who led his troops from the front, fighting bravely, made the ultimate sacrifice and embraced the Shahadat, the ISPR claimed.
The ISPR further said that a clearance operation is underway to eliminate any terrorists present in the area.
“Pakistan’s security forces are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country and the sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” he added.
Last week, security forces conducted an investigation into the presence of local top terrorist commander Irfan Ullah Adnan, who was killed during an intense exchange of fire, the ISPR said.
According to the ISPR, the slain terrorist was actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces as well as extortion and targeted killings of innocent civilians. He was one of the most wanted terrorists by law enforcement agencies.
Since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has witnessed a significant rise in terrorist attacks against security forces, especially in the border provinces with the neighbouring country in recent months, where the militants are using advanced weaponry and equipment.
In recent months, the frequency of such violent incidents has been reduced due to the security forces’ intensive fight against terrorism. The annual security report of the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) states that during the second quarter of the current year, Pakistan witnessed 380 deaths and 220 injuries related to violence between civilians, security personnel and criminals, as a result of as many as 240 incidents of terrorist attacks and counter-terrorist operations.
In this context, the federal cabinet last month approved the launch of the anti-terror operation — Operation Azm-e-Istehkam — following the recommendations of the Central Committee of the National Action Plan to eradicate terrorism from the country.
