US President Joe Biden, in an impassioned 68-minute State of the Union address, accused Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump on Thursday of threatening democracy and stooping to Russia. Reuters reported.

Biden criticized Trump several times, instead of saying his name, referring to him “as my predecessor.”

He criticized the former president for encouraging Russia to do whatever it wants.

He said: “Now my predecessor, a former Republican president, tells Putin, quote: 'Do what you want.'”

“I think it's outrageous, dangerous and unacceptable.”

In addition, he accused Trump of the attack on the Capitol on January 6. “My predecessor and some of you here seek to bury the truth about January 6. I will not do that; you cannot love your country only when you win.”

The speech gave Biden, who is suffering from low approval ratings, the opportunity to speak directly to millions of American viewers about his vision for another four-year term.

He took the opportunity to draw contrasts with Trump over abortion rights and the economy, and directed several attacks at Republican lawmakers in the chamber with offhand jokes that seemed designed to calm concerns about his age and mental acuity.

Trump, in a response on his Truth Social platform, said: “He said I bowed to the Russian leader. He gave them everything, including Ukraine.”
