Billionaire Elon Musk does not support traditional higher education, as he advocates for working professions such as electrician, plumber, carpenter, etc.

The billionaire has a degree in physics and economics, but emphasizes that a four-year university degree is no guarantee of success.

Musk highlighted that knowledge is now freely available and further said that “we need electricians, plumbers and carpenters, and that is much more important than having incremental majors in political science.”

He highlighted practical professions, showing them the utmost respect and encouragement.

Musk has also shown his disbelief towards traditional education. In 2019, he tweeted that a college degree is not a requirement to work at his automotive and energy company Tesla.

Thanks to him, the topic gained a lot of attention and a debate began on the relevance of university education in the current era.

One user wrote: “College degrees have their place, but college is not for everyone. The whole system has been watered down and become high school 2.0 for many people.”

A second user said: “There's nothing wrong with a four-year degree, but it shouldn't cost that much. Quality, affordable online degrees are the way to go, combined with internships to gain practical experience.”
