Manchester and Stansted MAG airports see record traffic in April – Business Traveler

Manchester Airport Group (MAG) has published its latest traffic figures, showing another record month for Manchester and Stansted airports.

Manchester Airport celebrated its seventh consecutive month of record traffic, with 2.41 million passengers traveling through its terminals in April. The figure is 10.9 percent more than the same month in 2023 and 25,000 more than the airport's previous record in April 2019.

The most popular destinations last month were Dublin (87,970 passengers), Amsterdam (85,288), Dubai (82,518), Alicante (78,694) and Tenerife (72,324).

Last week, Manchester Airport announced plans to reopen its private terminal which had been suspended since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Previously known as PremiAir, the facility has been renamed “aether” and will reopen on November 4.

Meanwhile, London Stansted also recorded a record April, welcoming 2.48 million passengers during the month, 90,000 more than its previous high in April 2019.

However, East Midlands remains behind the group's other airports, handling 330,000 passengers during April, equivalent to 83 per cent of traffic in April 2019.

Commenting on the news, Manchester Airport CEO Chris Woodroofe said:

“Here at Manchester Airport we are very proud of connecting the North to the world. Over the last month, it has been fantastic to see so many passengers arrive, taking advantage of our unrivaled route network of over 200 destinations which gives them more choice than any airport outside London.

“And the vast majority of those passengers have had a great start to their trip: 93 percent waited ten minutes or less to get to security. In fact, if you travel with carry-on luggage and check in online, you will most likely be able to arrive at the airport and walk directly to security with hardly any wait.

“What that means is that you can start your holiday at the airport, head straight to our departure lounges and enjoy the facilities we offer, whether it's the award-winning architecture of the new Terminal 2, the new game point for lovers of virtual reality and computer games in Terminal 1 or in the wide range of shops, bars and restaurants throughout the airport.”
