A dedicated Xbox handheld console could reportedly be announced at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase.
The presentation, which will air on June 9, will include the usual updates on upcoming Xbox games and will likely feature some new titles. However, as TrueAchievements reported, a YouTube video from notable leaker eXtas1s claims that a new Xbox handheld will be unveiled at the show.
The video is in Spanish, but a translation was made on the 'GamingLeaksAndRumours' subreddit and it states that a “trailer about the new Xbox Portable” will be revealed at the exhibition. Naturally, take this with a pinch of salt, but if the information is accurate, the “teaser” implies that we'll only get a brief snippet of the device at this showcase.
The video also indicates that there will be a shadow of an Xbox Game Studios first-party title after the presentation has aired. That means a big Xbox title could launch on the same day. The possible candidates here are Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024Torreborne, or potentially State of Decay 3 (although we have yet to see even a snippet of gameplay from the Undead Labs-developed sequel). star field DLC is also a possibility.
As for the handheld, if it is real, it is difficult to speculate on what form it might take. Naturally, an Xbox handheld could make a great portable Xbox Game Pass machine, although its value will depend on whether players can download games natively or get stuck into cloud streaming.
I think the latter would be a disappointment, especially since gamers can get a comparable experience on their phone with Xbox Cloud Gaming and a controller like the Backbone One or the Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra. Still, we'll know for sure in a few days, on June 9, provided the leaks are accurate.
