We've barely started the year and already, 2024 is shaping up to be a big year for blockbuster movie releases. Previews of two of our most anticipated new movies:Wicked and tornadoes – were shown at last night's Super Bowl and both look spectacular.
Wicked is the film adaptation of the much-loved musical and stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, The Color Purple of Broadway) as Elphaba. A young woman whose green skin makes her stand out a bit, she strikes up an unlikely friendship with the extremely popular Glinda, played by Arianna Grande. When their lives diverge, the women take two different paths that will ultimately turn them into Glinda The Good and The Wicked Witch of the West.
Wicked It has two parts: the first film will be released at the end of November of the year and the second is currently scheduled for release in November 2025. Depending on the length of its theatrical run, it is likely that the first part will not debut in streaming on Peacock or Prime Video until 2025.
Tornadoes and screams
as for tornadoesthe sequel to the unique tornado thriller Twister, will be released much sooner. It's coming to theaters in July, so expect its streaming debut on one of the top streaming services within a couple of months after that date.
tornadoes comes from the same producers as the Jurassic, Bourne and Indiana Jones franchises. She stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the crabs sing, normal people) and Glen Powell (Anyone but you, Top Gun: Maverick) as two very different characters with a shared interest in devastating storms. Edgar Jones is Kate Cooper, former storm chaser, who's no fan of reckless social media superstar Tyler Owens, but as unprecedented storms converge on central Oklahoma, the two have to put aside their differences and fight for their lives. According to Universal, it's an “adrenaline-pumping, seat-grabbing, big-screen thrill ride that puts you in direct contact with one of nature's most wonderful and destructive forces.”
tornadoes It will be released in theaters on July 19, 2024. Wicked It will do the same on November 27, 2024.
