Most of the best VPN deals are only available on two-year plans. But this time, Windscribe has bucked the trend.
On July 1, the company announced the opportunity to save $20 when you sign up using the promo code NOBACKDR.
The promotion drops the price of its 1-year plan to $49, making it almost $20 cheaper than NordVPN's equivalent one-year tier ($65.88).
Unlike most of the best VPNs, Windscribe only offers monthly and one-year plans. Fortunately, it doesn't impose price increases at the end of the subscription, unlike NordVPN, which increases to $139 after the first year.
In our most recent round of testing, Windscribe proved to be one of the fastest VPNs out there, hitting 2263 Mbps with WireGuard. This was only surpassed by Mullvad (2308 Mbps) and PrivadoVPN (2334 Mbps).
Their ROBERT phishing blocking tool is also effective, blocking 76% of the malicious links we throw at it. The most impressive thing is that it also blocked 97% of ads.
At the moment, its only real weakness is streaming. It was unable to unblock YouTube in the US or Prime Video in Japan. It also faced some minor issues with Prime Video US and Canada, and Disney+ in Australia and Japan.
While YouTube in the US proved difficult for even the best streaming VPNs, this performance is not as good as we expected. So if streaming is your priority, I recommend looking into NordVPN, Norton VPN, or Proton for the time being.
