Live Translate is part of Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite of features that offers real-time translation between languages, and is expected to expand to third-party apps in the near future, with WhatsApp being one of the first apps to benefit.
According to a reliable informant @UniversoIce (via Neowin), WhatsApp integration is on the way, though there’s no set timeline. Samsung has previously said that other apps will get Live Translate, without specifying what those apps might be.
How this feature will work remains to be seen, but on compatible Samsung phones it is already integrated into the default messaging app and works in phone calls as well. There is also a standalone interpreter tool for instant audio translations.
According to SamMobile, the integration could also extend to audio calls on WhatsApp, so you can get translations between languages while talking to another person, as well as convert your text messages.

Of course, phone makers are going all out to pack as much AI into their devices as possible right now, and Apple recently showed off a range of Apple Intelligence features coming to the iPhone later this year.
Google has also been busy with AI features. As you'll find out in our Google Pixel 8a review, the mid-range model is the last Pixel to come with options for AI-generated wallpapers, live language translation for phone calls, AI-powered photo editing, and more.
Samsung certainly won't want to be left behind in terms of AI, and giving third-party apps the option to access some AI magic could be one way to do that, so it's up to you, Apple and Google.
We may hear more about the new AI innovations at the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, July 10. Expected hardware launches include the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Watch Ultra.
