Netflix has announced that the new animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will be released on October 10 in an exciting new trailer (see below).
Based on the famous video game franchise first released in 1996, Netflix released a first trailer for the heroine's next adventure last year, when it also revealed that Hayley Atwell (Captain America the First Avenger, Mission Impossible 7) would take the voice of the legendary British archaeologist.
In addition to seeing Lara Croft wielding her iconic bow from Crystal Dynamics' video game trilogy, the animation goes a step further to stay true to the popular game franchise with Earl Baylon (Lumpia with vengeance) reprising his role as Jonah Maiava from the video game. In addition to Hayley Atwell and Earl Baylon, Allen Maldonado (Blackish, Heels) joins the voice cast as Zip, Croft's tech expert.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft: what we know so far
In the action-packed release date trailer, weapon-wielding Croft embarks on more dangerous adventures as he scales caverns, parachutes, and jumps over lava to explore new territories. But a sinister voice-over narrates his dangerous quest and asks him how much longer he can persevere, although there is no doubt that this will not stop his daring activities and his thirst for adventure.
His traveling companion, Jonah Maiava, also appears, but the intrepid explorer goes alone on this mission, and the series is expected to follow the events that occur immediately after the Survivor Trilogy video games.
From what we know so far, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft finds Lara leaving her friends to undertake more treacherous missions. However, Lara is forced to return home when a thief with a deep personal connection to her steals a dangerous Chinese artifact from Croft Manor.
According to Netflix Tudum: “Her daring quest will take her on an adventure around the world and into the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self and decide what kind of hero she wants to become.”
Since the video game's original release, Tomb Raider has become one of the most famous franchises in the world, so it's no surprise that it received the Netflix animation treatment as a way to reimagine the legacy story.
