Netflix partners with Minecraft creator Mojang to create an animated television series based on the incredibly popular sandbox video game.
Revealed via a 20-second teaser on its social media channels, the streaming titan revealed that it was developing an animated television show that will be set in the block-based world owned by Mojang and its parent company Microsoft.
Few details have been revealed about the in-development series, such as a confirmed release date and/or voice cast. However, Netflix and Mojang did provide a little insight into its creation via a brief news post on the official Minecraft website, including which animation studio will lead development of the upcoming project and the fact that it won't feature the star everyone's favorite blockbuster, Steve.

We couldn't be more excited, so stay tuned for more information!”
Netflix Minecraft The series is just the latest animated production announced and/or in development on the best streaming service in the world. Ultraman: on the riseone of Netflix's new movies next month, will be the next to emerge from the streamer's animated pipeline, with the film arriving on the platform on June 14.

Undermining adaptation well
With its cute block-based graphics and family-friendly appeal, some people (myself included) have found it strange that an animated show Minecraft The series has not been attempted before. The fact that we're finally getting one from Netflix seems like it should have been done a long time ago.
That said, in some ways, Netflix's announcement couldn't have come at a worse time. On the one hand, the revelation comes 13 days later. MinecraftApple's 15th anniversary (its actual birthday took place on May 17, for those wondering), which would have been a more appropriate date to make this announcement. Unless work is advanced on the animated series, it won't be released on Netflix until after the live-action Warner Bros. Minecraft The film also does not reach theaters. The long-gestating film, starring Jack Black, Jason Momoa and Kate McKinnon, among others, is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide in April 2025.
If that movie fails to make its mark on audiences, viewers may not have much of an appetite for Netflix's animated offering whenever it's released. In fact, few others Minecraft spin-offs or adaptations – Minecraft dungeons, Minecraft Legendsand Telltale's narrative Minecraft Video game adaptation, to name three, have struggled to match the unprecedented success of the original game. There are few guarantees, then, that their upcoming film and television reworkings will do the same. We'll find out if Netflix and Warner Bros. have created befitting adaptations of Mojang's universally adored video game in the months and years to come.
